In 2013, I produced a digital painting of Morgan Freeman using an iPad Air and my finger. I had discovered that it was possible to create incredibly high resolution (4k) digital paintings using the Procreate app for iPad, and I became interested in seeing just how far I could push this tool.
I selected an incredibly detailed image of Morgan Freeman taken by photographer Scott Gries, and over the course of 4 weeks painted a photorealistic portrait with my finger.
Upon completion I released a video that detailed the process of creating this piece. The video was extremely successful, reaching 1 million people in its first day and has since surpassed 15 million views. The viral success of the painting lead to it being featured by media outlets around the world, including CNN, The Daily Mail, Good Morning America, Gizmodo, and Pocket Lint.
